AJC targets two-state double with confidence

The Anthony Cummings Stable is preparing for an assault on some great prizemoney over the weekend, with Muraqaba taking a big step towards further Spring goals in the 2000m Inglis Cup at Caulfield and Vergara and Maven Wiz representing in Stakes company at Rosehill.

Muraqaba, an impressive last start winner and now unbeaten after three runs in his first racing preparation, has caught the attention of a number of good judges and makes his next outing tomorrow at Caulfield in a race restricted to four year-olds nominated in Inglis sales as yearlings. With the race valued at $250,000 it presents a fantastic opportunity for horses that require more time to mature, and is placed neatly in the Melbourne Spring carnival. Muraqaba has done very well since his last run and despite the difficult task of travelling to Melbourne we believe Muraqaba has all that is required to win.

On the home-front, the stable is represented by Vergara in the Golden Pendant (1400m G2) on the quick back-up after a satisfactory run in the Tibbie Stakes last Friday at Newcastle. She has come through the run in good order and appears to get conditions to suit. Despite the great task of overcoming great mares like Catkins and Peeping, we are confident Vergara and steal a break and prove hard to catch.

Maven Wiz, still very raw and yet to master his trade in only his first racing preparation, takes on some more seasoned campaigners in The Gloaming Stakes (1800m G3). His debut run was very encouraging, where even though he missed the start badly, he was able to make up significant ground over the last 400m flashing home to run fourth. His second start was a step up in grade to midweek company and he was cramped for room and momentum at a crucial stage before finishing strongly over 1600m. The 1800m on Saturday presents a great opportunity for him to show his best and although he meets better company again, The stable has always felt he would be up to stakes grade.

Paris Match rounds out our runners for the weekend in the last race on the program ( 1400m BM 85). Paris Match has been off the scene for a little while due to injury, but as her form suggests she is a mare of good quality and fine breeding. She has trialled nicely leading into this run and whilst she will take more improvement from the run, we believe she will run well first-up.
