Top debut and one to put on your list

Three-year-old High Chaparral filly Top Of My Listhas plenty of pedigree on her side, being the first foal of the talented race mare Beauty Watch (Belong To Me), a Group 3-winning, Group 1 placed half-sister to Group 2 winner Precious Glitter (Danehill) and off the back a lone barrier trial third, the filly started well in the market behind blue-blood filly Crystal Flute in the Pluck @Vinery Plate (1300m).

Slowly away from the barriers in the small six horse field, leading jockey Hugh Bowman didn’t panic, allowing the debutante to work into the race on her own steam, where she went along the rail to settle in third behind race leader Libby Tickets.

As Crystal Flute looked to be in some trouble at the tail of the field, Libby Tickets cornered in the lead with Pacific Pearl stalking her on the outside, while Top Of My List was getting a gun run on the fence.

With the race leader drifting off the rail, Top Of My List took the rails run and sprinted to the lead to hold off the late charge of Make A Ripple by a half-length, with a long neck back to Pacific Pearl who battled away after racing on the speed throughout. For race footage, click here.

Stable foreman Edward Cummings said there was scope for improvement for the filly.

"She's coming good at the moment for something like a Queensland carnival stakes race if she continues to improve," Cummings said.

Cummings said Top Of My List would be suited between 1400 and 1600 metres.

"She was a little bit wayward today," Cummings said.

"She's obviously going to improve.

"We've always thought she had a bit of a motor there."
